I love this movie! The concepts of fate and coincidence and the lasting impact they can leave on the lives of people are central to this film. By the way, if you didn't know, this film is in German with English subtitles.
What if the world as we know it turned out to be just an illusion masking the gritty realities of the place we actually live in? If you were given the chance, would you even want to know the truth? Those are some of the questions posed throughout the action-filled film, "The Matrix".
Here's another film dealing with the idea of being placed in a false world and finding the will to escape it.
A cool little ghost film called, "The Sixth Sense", surprised me and gave me a little more respect for Bruce Willis after I went with my best friend to see it in the theater. There's some great serious acting in here. This is not a predictable film. To tell you the truth, I actually didn't get the ending after I saw it. I had to have it explained to me several times before it made any sense to me, which is strange because everyone else seemed to get it right away. Um yeah, I'm not dense, really.
This is a very beautiful film. If you're looking for a fast-paced action flick, this is not it. But if you can sit back and give your attention to the story as it unfolds, this film is worth it. Snow Falling On Cedars is basically a love story between two people who grow up with each other but know they can never really be together in a society where interracial relationships are still forbidden. The film goes back and forth between the past and the present and is tied together by the current murder trial which brings the pair face to face again.
I really like the cinematography in this film. I also think the premise of a modern-day Hamlet taking place in the metropolis of New York City is a very interesting concept.
